Roster Moves (6/23): Zach Duke placed on the DL (yeah it’s a slow day)

facebooktwitterreddit

June 23rd was a relatively light day for transactions with only 7 teams, and only 1 in the AL, making a move. The day lacked a “headliner” so today’s report is straight forward and bare bones.

(moves after the jump)

AL Central:

No moves to report.

AL East:

The Toronto Blue Jays outrighted 3B-Edwin Encarnacion (27) to Las Vegas after he cleared waivers.

AL West:

No moves to report.

NL Central:

The Houston Astros outrighted RHP-Casey Daigle (29) and C-Kevin Cash (32) to Round Rock. OF-Cory Sullivan (30), who like Daigle and Cash was DFA’d on June 20th, elected to become a free agent instead. In other Astros news, SS-Tommy Manzella (27) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured finger and SS-Oswaldo Navarro (25) was called up from Triple-A.

The Pittsburgh Pirates placed LHP-Zach Duke (27) on the 15-day DL thanks to a strained muscle in his pitching elbow. The move was made retroactive to June 17th.

NL East:

The New York Mets signed RHP-Ramon Ortiz (37) to a minor league contract.

Philadelphia Phillies 3B-Greg Dobbs (31), who was DFA’d on the 22nd, accepted an assignment to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

The Florida Marlins released LHP-Renyel Pinto (27), he was designated for assignment back on June 16th. The team also outrighted RHP-Jorge Sosa (33), who cleared waivers after being DFA’d on June 20th, to New Orleans.

NL West:

The Los Angeles Dodgers activated SS-Rafael Furcal (32) from the bereavement list and optioned SS-Chin-lung Hu (26) to Albuquerque.
