Borbon to DL with Hamstring Injury

Texas Rangers centerfielder Julio Borbon has been placed on the team’s 15 day disabled list because of an inflamed left hamstring.  Borbon sustained the injury while tracking a fly ball in last night’s game against the LA Angels.

The team believes that the injury is not that severe but would rather be safe then sorry with their outfielder

To replace Borbon, Texas has called up veteran outfielder Endy Chavez.  Chavez has not seen action in the majors since he played for the Seattle Mariners in 2009.

Chavez immediately found his way into the lineup for the Rangers Saturday, starting in center and acting as the team’s leadoff hitter.

With Saturday’s move, the Rangers currently are without their entire opening day outfield.  Borbon joins Nelson Cruz and Josh Hamilton on the DL.

However, the team shouldn’t be without their trio for too long.  Cruz and Hamilton are improving, and again Borbon’s stay on the shelf shouldn’t be too lengthy.

Rangers manager Ron Washington summed up the team’s situation with his pregame quotes Saturday.

“There is light at the end of the tunnel,” Washington said. “In a couple of weeks, we’ll have some big guns back.”
