Pirates Snyder to DL
By Editorial Staff
The Pittsburgh Pirates have lost yet another backstop, as the team has placed catcher Chris Snyder on its 15 day disabled list. Snyder is dealing with a back injury.
Snyder sustained the injury during Wednesday night’s contest against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 30 year old exited the game in the 2nd inning after sliding awkwardly into second base.
Snyder is in his second year with the club, managing a line of .271/.376/.396 on the season.
Pittsburgh is already without starting catcher Ryan Doumit, who’s been on the DL since May 30th with a left ankle sprain. He was replaced by Snyder and Dusty Brown.
The team is left with Brown and his .143 average and Snyder’s roster replacement Wyatt Toregas. Toregas has played 11 games for the Pirates Triple-A affiliate, only managing a single hit in 35 at bats.
Needless to say the Pirates are hoping Snyder or Doumit are able to return sooner than later.
