Callaspo Injures Hamstring; Headed to DL?

While the Angels were able to snap their 6 game losing streak Saturday night, they seemingly continued in their losing ways.  One of the clubs best offensive players, Alberto Callaspo, left the game in the 7th inning after injuring his hamstring.

Callaspo was intentionally walked with two outs in the 7th.  The third baseman then successfully swiped second base, but immediately came up holding his left leg.  He was forced to exit the contest.

LA will have Callaspo reevaluated today to see if he will need to spend time on the team’s disabled list.

"“We’re going to evaluate it tonight and see if there’s any moves that need to be made,” manager Mike Scioscia said. “We’ll definitely look at things tomorrow morning and make a decision.”"

Callaspo has driven in the third most runs on the Angels this season while posting a line of .285/.358/.373.

LA acquired the 28 year old from the Kansas City Royals last July.  The Angels gave up minor leaguer Will Smith and pitcher Sean O’Sullivan to get Callaspo.

If Callaspo is forced to miss time due to injury, the club would likely use Maicer Izturis as its everyday third baseman and recall Alexi Amarista for infield depth.
