Nationals to Activate Zimmerman Tuesday

What was expected has now been confirmed.

The Washington Nationals will activate third baseman Ryan Zimmerman from their disabled list tomorrow.  The team has not announced a corresponding roster move, but Washington Post reporter Adam Kilgore expects it to be infielder Brian Bixler.

Zimmerman only played in 8 games with the Nationals this season before hitting the team’s DL with a strained abdominal muscle.  The slugger was off to a great start with 10 hits in the 8 games leading to a line of .357/.486/.536.

Zimmerman’s been rehabbing since June 5th and made his last minor league appearance yesterday for the Nationals Triple-A affiliate.

The 26 year old will add a much needed boost to Washington’s lineup.  While the club’s pitchers have been above average, its offense has been well below.  Only two players on the active roster have maintained OPS’s over .743.

You can tell things are bad when Jason Marquis has a higher batting average than Jayson Werth.

Zimmerman will be back at third tomorrow as the club starts its series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
