Braves Activate Heyward

The Braves promotional staff has been a little worried in the weeks leading up to tonight.  This evening the club is set to have Jason Heyward Bobblehead Night.

The only thing missing until a few hours ago was Jason Heyward.

Atlanta came to the rescue and announced the team’s activated their right fielder.  Heyward will make his return just in time to celebrate his figurine giveaway, batting 7th tonight as the Braves take on the New York Mets.

Heyward has been out since May 21st with a sore right shoulder.  Monday and Tuesday the 21 year old was in action for Atlanta’s Triple-A squad.  He reported to the Braves today and apparently they liked what they saw, making the move official this afternoon.

The slugger had a rough start to the season before managing an 8 game hitting streak to end the month of April.  He went 14 for 35 with 3 home runs and 7 RBIs to end April with a line of .258/.345/.495.

May was not as kind to Heyward.  In 17 games last month, he was only able to hold averages of .098/.229/.122.  The drop in production was credited in large part to Heyward’s injured shoulder.

To make room for Heyward the Braves have optioned Matt Young back to Triple-A.
