Josh Beckett Will Miss Tuesday’s Start
By Editorial Staff
Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston is reporting that Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett will miss his Tuesday start due to “intestinal turmoil”. Alfredo Aceves will take the mound in place of two time All-Star.
Though this doesn’t appear to be anything more than a stomach bug, I’m sure the Sox will be cautious with Beckett. He’s been the hands down leader of Boston’s pitching staff and has maintained the league’s best earned run average (1.86) this season. The right hander’s WHIP is sitting at a miniscule 0.92 as Beckett has only allowed 55 hits in his 92 innings of work.
Beckett last made an appearance Wednesday when he held the Tampa Bay Rays to only 1 hit over 9 shutout frames.
If the Red Sox are able to continue their current level of run production, I could probably start and pick up a W for the club. After Monday’s 14-5 blowout of the Padres, Boston has now scored 10 or more runs in three of their last four contests. They’ve posted a 12 spot or better four times already this month.
