Reds Activate Chapman

Apparently the Reds couldn’t wait very long to add the Cuban Missile back to their arsenal.  Cincinnati activated Aroldis Chapman today; with the lefty set to rejoin their pen.

It took the Reds a few days longer than many expected to bring Chapman back to the majors.  The flame thrower’s 30 day rehab assignment expired Tuesday, meaning Chapman would have to be recalled or sent to the minors.

The decision was not injury related, instead it was based upon Chapman’s performance or lack thereof.  Over his 9 rehab appearances Chapman could only manage an 8.31 ERA while pitching for the Reds’ Double and Triple-A affiliates.

Cincinnati decided not to activate Chapman Wednesday, but must be convinced he is now ready to go.  The left hander has been perfect over his last two appearances, prompting the Reds to make the move.

Chapman has been out since the middle of the May with shoulder inflammation.  To make room for the 23 year old on their roster, the Reds optioned reliever Jeremy Horst back to Triple-A.
