Brewers Set to Activate Takashi Saito

The Milwaukee Brewers are set to add an important piece to their pen this weekend as the team is expected to activate reliever Takashi Saito from the disabled list.

Saito only appeared in two games this season for the Brewers before hitting the DL with an injured oblique.

"“He’s very important, I think, for our bullpen and what we do. I agree with you – the timing might not be right to activate him. But the timing is right for him, and we feel the sooner we get him back here before the all-star break, the sooner we can see where he’s going to fit, what role he’s going to be in, how healthy he’s going to be – he says he feels great now.”"

Milwaukee signed the 41 year old this offseason in hopes that he could be the team’s setup man.  The right hander has missed so much time and realizes that his role may not be as clear cut as it was opening day.

"“I understand we already have a setup man and closer already,” he said. “I’m just going to be ready whenever my name is called.”"

While current closer John Axford has performed well this season (2.48 ERA and 20 for 22 in save opportunities) the same cannot be said for the rest of the Brewers’ pen.  Milwaukee’s relievers have combined for an ERA of 3.83 which is 20th in the league.
