Wade Davis Placed on DL

The Rays have placed starting pitcher Wade Davis on the disabled list with a strained right forearm.

Tampa Bay sent Davis to the hill last night in their 12-5 victory against the Twins.  The right hander allowed 9 hits and 3 earned runs while walking 3.

Davis picked up the no decision, but the Rays did come out on top.  Still, Davis sounded pretty unenthusiastic about his effort after the game.

"“I thought that it was probably some of the worst stuff that I’ve had all year,” Davis said. “But I battled through it … and it’s a good win for us.”"

Davis has been fairly successful for the Rays in his second full season with the club.  On the year Davis has maintained an ERA of 4.25 with a 1.46 WHIP.

The 25 year old has had 3 good months and one pretty awful one.  Davis came out of the gates with a 2.73 ERA through 5 April starts.  The righty hit rough waters in May, and his earned run average ballooned to 4.52.  Over his 6 starts in June and July Davis has regained his consistency, holding an ERA south of 4.

Davis is eligible to come off of the DL July 22 so he may only miss one start.  In the meantime, Tampa Bay has recalled reliever Brandon Gomes from Triple-A to replace Davis on their roster.
