Shane Victorino Activated

The Phillies activated center fielder Shane Victorino before Tuesday night’s contest against the Cubs.  Victorino has been out since July 3rd with a strained ligament in his right thumb.

Victorino was forced to miss last week’s All-Star game after being voted in by the fans as the National League’s last man in.  He is still feeling discomfort in his thumb, but he’s gotten it to the point that it’s bearable enough to play through and won’t affect his production on the field.

So the Hawaiian can continue his flyin’, Victorino will wear a protective brace on his thumb when he’s on the base paths.

Victorino has been one of the Phillies best this season.  Before his injury, the 30 year old put up an impressive line of .303/.376/.524 with 32 extra base hits and 53 runs scored over his 68 games played.

Philadelphia optioned Pete Orr back to Triple-A last night to make room on their roster for Victorino’s return.
