Jose Reyes Will Not Be Traded

There’s been so much talk surrounding Jose Reyes this season, as he’s been considered one of the largest trade chips on the marker.  Well, according to Buster Olney, that chip is no longer available.

Olney tweeted the following yesterday:

"“The Mets are now 100 percent certain they will not trade Jose Reyes before the deadline, according to sources. He changed their minds.”"

New York’s name has been involved in all kinds of trade rumors this month, many of them focusing on Reyes and teammate Carlos Beltran.  The club has even made arguably the season’s largest move in sending Francisco Rodriguez to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Many believe that with the salaries they will be shedding, and since they now do not have to worry about Rodriguez’s massive vesting option, the Mets will make a run at signing Reyes this offseason.

It’s what many Mets’ fans have clamored for and with Reyes’s level of play and the fact that the Mets are sitting a game over .500, ownership may now have decided that it’s best to keep the 28 year old All-Star in the fold going forward.

Now of course it is the season of rumors so there is no guarantee Reyes isn’t shipped, but it seems that now New York can now focus all of their attention on resigning their short stop this offseason.

That in of itself will be no easy task, as Reyes’s continued torrid pace is only increasing his possible level of demands.  There are also reports swirling that Reyes would love to sign with the Angels this offseason, and I’m sure there will be plenty of other suitors beyond the Mets and LA lined up for his services.
