Jason Kubel Returns to Twins
By Editorial Staff
After missing nearly two months of action, Jason Kubel will return to the Twins’ lineup Friday when they take on the Tigers. Minnesota’s manager Ron Gardenhire confirmed the decision with reporters before the club’s game last night.
Kubel’s been on the shelf since the end of May with a sprained foot. He made progress and was set to rejoin the Twins in early July before facing a setback during rehab.
The 29 year old experienced discomfort in the same foot that sent him to the disabled list and Minnesota decided to shut him down.
He’s since recovered and finished up his rehab assignment Thursday. In his 6 games with the Twins’ High and Triple-A squads, Kubel went 5 for 18 with a home run, double and 3 RBI’s.
Before his injury, Kubel was Minnesota’s best offensive player. The right fielder posted a line of .310/.355/.465 over 52 games with the Twins this season with 20 extra base hits and 30 RBI’s.
Minnesota is hoping Kubel’s return can boost their continued climb up the AL Central standings. The Twins won 9 of 13 leading up to the All-Star break and since the second half has resumed they’ve gone 5 and 3. Minnesota entered Thursday 5 games back of the first place Indians.
