Carlos Gonzalez Hits DL with Wrist Injury

The Rockies placed Carlos Gonzalez on the 15 day disabled list Friday after the left fielder reaggravated his right wrist.

Gonzalez sustained the injury Thursday night against the Braves when fouling off a pitch in the 5th inning.  During the at bat, Gonzalez extended a tendon and it rolled over a bone in his wrist.

Colorado reported that while this is usually something that causes a lot of pain for a short period of time before subsiding, it does show that there is lingering weakness in Gonzalez’s wrist.  The Rockies hope that the two weeks off will allow the wrist to get back to 100%.

Gonzalez originally hurt his wrist during a July 3rd game when he slammed into the center field wall at Coors Field.  He was able to make the fantastic grab, but it came at a cost of 4 games.

He seemed to be back to good after the All-Star break, returning to everyday action.  In the 5 second half games before Thursday’s contest with the Braves, Gonzalez had a home run and 4 RBI’s.  The success was even rolling over into Thursday as CarGo hit a solo shot before exiting in the 5th.

On the season, Gonzalez has posted a solid line of .289/.358/.491 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI’s.  Ryan Spilborghs replaced Gonzalez in left field Friday.
