Chipper Jones hopes to return to action tonight for the Braves as they begin their series with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Jones has been out since July 8th with a tear in his meniscus.  The third basemen underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and has been rehabbing since.

After 2 games with Atlanta’s Single-A affiliate, Jones feels ready to return to the Braves lineup.  During those two contests the 39 year old went 1 for 3 with a pair of walks.  He told Atlanta that he’s feeling no discomfort in his knee.

"“I talked to him; he said he feels great,” manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “He’ll meet us back home in Atlanta and have our people look at him, maybe ask him to do a couple extra stuff. If he’s good, he’ll be in the lineup [Monday].”"

Before the surgery, Jones had managed a line of .259/.340/.428 on the year with 32 extra base hits and 46 RBI’s.  He opted for the procedure when cortisone shots were not able to relieve his pain.

Jones hoped the surgery would allow him to return to full strength in time for the Braves postseason run.
