Nate McLouth Hits Disabled List

While fellow contenders Philadelphia and San Francisco added outfielders this weekend, the Braves continue to lose them.  Nate McLouth was placed on the 15 day disabled list yesterday with a lower abdominal strain.  Jose Constanza has been called up from Triple-A to replace him.

McLouth sustained the injury during Thursday night’s contest against the Pirates when throwing a ball back into the infield.  He was trying to hold a runner and was able to do so, but the toss will end up costing him at least two weeks.

The 29 year old was able to finish that game, but hasn’t returned since for the Braves.  On the year McLouth has struggled, only managing an OPS of .677 with 18 extra base hits and 16 RBI’s in 81 games.

Constanza got the call after showing the Braves what he could do in Triple-A.  While he doesn’t offer much pop, Constanza hit at a clip of .312 and scored 47 runs while stealing 23 bases this year in the minors.

The 27 year old came over this offseason from the Indians as a minor league free agent and made his major league debut Friday night against the Marlins.  Constanza hit leadoff and played center for Atlanta, going 1 for 4 with an RBI single.
