Shane Victorino Receives Three Game Suspension
By Editorial Staff
Shane Victorino has been suspended for three games by MLB for his part in Friday night’s bench clearing brawl.
Victorino was the only player from either the Phillies or Giants to receive a suspension while his teammate, Placido Polanco, and a pair of Giants, Eli Whiteside and Ramon Ramirez, were fined undisclosed amounts.
The ruckus began when Victorino was hit in the back by Ramirez. Both players made motions towards each other but were separated. Whiteside immediately jumped between the pair and everything erupted when he decided to attempt to take down Polanco.
A scrum formed and just as things seemed to be dying down, Victorino launched himself back in the crowd. What made him rejoin the action was Pablo Sandoval getting into it with Carlos Ruiz.
It seems that Victorino is being punished for this second assault. Major League Baseball sited him with “aggressive actions” and accused him of prolonging the altercation. The center fielder has stated that he plans on appealing the decision.
