Dee Gordon Hits DL with Shoulder Contusion

The Dodgers will be without rookie shortstop Dee Gordon for at least the next two weeks as the club has placed the 23 year old on their 15 day disabled list with a right shoulder contusion.

Gordon originally sustained the injury during Saturday’s contest against the Diamondbacks.  During the game, Kelly Johnson got caught in a run down and Gordon made a diving tag to record the out for the Dodgers.  Unfortunately, with the out came an injury as Gordon remained on the ground in obvious pain and eventually left the game.

After sitting out Sunday’s finale with Arizona, Gordon was back in the lineup Monday and Tuesday.  But his return wouldn’t last long as the speedster aggravated his shoulder while swinging during Tuesday’s game.

An MRI actually delivered good news for the Dodgers regarding the injury, as Gordon only sustained a contusion.  Still LA has elected to play it safe with their top prospect, allowing him the two weeks to return to top form.

Gordon himself agreed with the decision as he hopes to get his shoulder back to 100% before rejoining the club.

"“I need to be healthy. I want to be healthy,” Gordon said. “I feel like I can help my team, and the best way is to get healthy.”"

Gordon entered 2011 rated by Baseball America as the league’s 26th best prospect.  After hitting at a clip of .333/.373/.410 over 70 games at Triple-A, Gordon got the call and made his debut for the Dodgers in early June.

He was able to get off to a quick start and has since leveled off to a .234 average with 12 stolen bases over his first 30 games in the bigs.

LA hasn’t announced a corresponding roster move and isn’t likely to do so until tomorrow as the club has the day off.
