Former Major Leaguer Mike Jacobs has been suspended 50 games after testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.  Jacobs was found to have human growth hormone in his system, a substance banned by MLB.

Jacobs has spent the 2011 season with the Colorado Rockies Triple-A squad, posting a line of .298/.376/.534 over 117 games.  As his stats indicate, Jacobs has had quite the year, totaling 23 home runs, 30 doubles and 97 RBI’s.

Last year Jacobs spent a short time in the Majors with the Mets, but hasn’t seen significant big league time since 2009.  As a member of the Royals, Jacobs played in 128 games that season with 19 home runs and a .689 OPS.

Jacobs came up through the Mets system before he was shipped to the Marlins in 2005 in the Carlos Delgado trade.  The 30 year old had his best seasons in Florida, reaching the pinnacle of his success in 2008 when he hit 32 home runs and drove in 93 RBI’s.
