Jason Kipnis has been placed on the 15 day disabled list with hamstring and oblique problems.  Cleveland recalled utility man Shelley Duncan to replace Kipnis.

Kipnis injured his hamstring while he was stretching before Thursday’s game.  The rookie was already dealing with discomfort in his right oblique, and with the additional hammy problem, Cleveland decided to place Kipnis on the DL.

Entering the year, Kipnis was ranked by Baseball America as the league’s 54th best prospect.  After compiling a line of .280/.362/.484 over 92 games in Triple-A, the 24 year old was called up by the Indians at the end of July.

Though he got off to a bit of a slow start, Kipnis has posted solid numbers in August.  Over a span of 11 games, the second baseman put up an impressive OPS of 1.151 with 5 home runs, 9 RBI’s and 13 runs scored.

Duncan returns after being sent down to the Minors less than a week ago.  During his 43 games with the Tribe this season, Duncan has hit at a clip of .246/.297/.415 while manning first base and the outfield corners for the club.
