Alex Rodriguez Day-to-Day with Sprained Thumb

A day after being activated from the disabled list, Alex Rodriguez was back on the New York Yankees’ bench.

Rodriguez’s night off had nothing to do with his right knee that caused him to miss a month and a half of action.  Instead, A-Rod was nursing a sprained left thumb.

"“He didn’t necessarily feel it a whole lot that day, but it seemed to rear its ugly head [Tuesday],” Girardi said. “I found out about it today and we’ll just go day by day. Hopefully it gets a lot better by [Wednesday].”"

Rodriguez told reporters that he injured his thumb during Sunday’s game against the Twins.  In the bottom of the 8th inning, Rodriguez laid out to knock down what ended up being a Joe Mauer single.  Following the play, Rodriguez took his glove off and started shaking his left hand and grimacing.

After taking some swings in the batting cage Monday night, Rodriguez notified the team that he wouldn’t be able to play the field but could still be used late in the game as a pinch hitter.

New York’s considering him day-to-day with the injury, but Rodriguez expects to get back on the field Wednesday night for the Yankees.

"“The good news is, the knee feels great, the body feels good,” Rodriguez said. “It’s just hopefully a little bump in the road here, and we’re on track.”"
