Alex Rodriguez Meets with MLB to Discuss Poker Allegations

Alex Rodriguez and MLB officials finally met to go over the illegal gambling allegations the slugger faced earlier this month.

Star Magazine published reports stating Rodriguez took part in at least two illegal high-stakes poker games that involved loan sharks, thugs and drugs.

Rodriguez quickly came out to dispute the reports, as his publicist said the story contained “numerous factual inaccuracies”.

Originally it was reported that Major League Baseball was considering suspending Rodriguez as a result of the story.  Bud Selig was said to be fed up with the antics of Rodriguez, who had been warned about participating in these types of activities before.

But as the reported meeting has approached, few actually believed that Rodriguez would be forced to miss any time due to the allegations.  Rodriguez and two MLB investigators recently sat down to go over the reports.

"“I thought it went well,” Rodriguez said. “They asked me all the questions, I answered them. I’ll let them review it, chew on it and then come back to us. And that’s it.”"

Rodriguez doesn’t expect to receive a suspension following the meeting.  Instead he believes the investigators will simply report their findings to the commissioner and the story will become a non-issue.

After returning for the Yankees this week following an extended trip to the disabled list, Rodriguez missed a few more games with a sprained thumb.  He was back in New York’s lineup Thursday and went 2 for 4 with a pair of walks while scoring 3 times.

Rodriguez homered last night for the Yankees, who continue to battle the Red Sox for first place in the AL East.
