Johan Santana Logs 2 Innings as Rehab Resumes

Johan Santana completed 2 innings of work last night for the Mets Single-A affiliate.  It was Santana’s first time back against live action since his rehab setback in the beginning of August.

Santana threw 30 pitches (21 strikes) over 2 innings Saturday, allowing 1 run on 3 hits.  Santana struck out 2 while surrendering no free passes.

All of the damage against Santana came in the first inning.  The left-hander closed out his appearance by logging a perfect second frame.

As long as everything is feeling good following last night’s start, Santana is expected to pitch again next Friday.  Santana will likely have his work load increased to 3 innings or 50 pitches.

While there’s less than a month remaining in the 2011 campaign, the Mets are still saying there’s a chance Santana returns to the club for a late season start.

However, this isn’t a major concern of the club.  The Mets seem to be content with the fact that it now appears Santana will be ready to return when the 2012 season kicks off.
