Grady Sizemore Activated for Detroit Series

Grady Sizemore returned to action for the Cleveland Indians today, just in time for the start of the club’s huge series against the Detroit Tigers.

Sizemore was placed on the disabled list in the middle of July with another knee problem.  The issue proved fairly insignificant, but Sizemore remained on the DL through today after undergoing surgery to repair a sports hernia.

While the hernia caused Sizemore to miss another substantial amount of time, Indians fans were relieved that the center fielder wasn’t dealing with more knee trouble.

Sizemore missed a majority of the 2010 season with a knee injury that required microfracture surgery.  Still recovering through the spring, Sizemore wasn’t able to start the 2011 season with the Indians.  He made his debut in the middle of April, but was soon sidelined again with a bruised right knee.

All told, Sizemore has only played in 62 games for the Indians this season.  Offensively he’s had his ups and downs, as injuries have taken place just when Sizemore seemed to be getting comfortable at the plate.  On the year, Sizemore has put up a line of .235/.301/.462 with 10 home runs, 21 doubles and 29 RBI’s.

Cleveland enters their three game set with the Tigers 6.5 back in the AL Central.  While the Indians do have 6 games remaining with Detroit, they will have to get busy to gain ground as the season is quickly coming to a close.
