Jon Rauch Done for Season

Jon Rauch’s season is over.  The Toronto Blue Jays have placed the reliever on their 15 day disabled list, which will sideline him for the remainder of the year.  Rauch is dealing with a cartilage tear in his right knee.

Rauch will take some time off before meeting with a knee specialist next week.  The Blue Jays have already recommended that Rauch undergo surgery on his knee.  If this diagnosis is confirmed by the specialist, he will perform the procedure when Rauch meets with him.

Toronto estimates that Rauch would need six to eight weeks to recover from the surgery.  This would allow plenty of time for Rauch to rehab and ready himself for Spring Training.

Rauch last pitched for the Blue Jays on the 4th of September.  It was only the right-hander’s second appearance since returning from his appendectomy which was performed in the middle of August.

Toronto signed Rauch this offseason to a one year deal which includes a $3.75 million team option for 2012.  His first season with the Blue Jays was not all that successful, as Rauch ended the year with a 4.85 ERA over his 53 appearances.
