MLB Playoffs Schedule: 2011 Division Series

With all of last night’s wild finishes, the schedule for Major League Baseball’s 2011 playoffs is set.  No game 163 tiebreakers are necessary, and MLB’s division series are scheduled to begin this weekend.

The Tampa Bay Rays finished their season with a ridiculous come from behind victory last night, propelling them into the playoffs.  Though they are the wild-card and thus the fourth seed, teams cannot play division rivals in the first round of the MLB playoffs.  For that reason, the Rays will take on the Texas Rangers, who clinched the second seed Wednesday night, in one ALDS series.  Their schedule is as follows:

Friday: @ Texas, 5:07 p.m.

Saturday: @ Texas

Monday: @ Tampa Bay

Tuesday: @ Tampa Bay (*if necessary)

Thursday: @ Texas*

This leaves the Yankees facing off with the Detroit Tigers.  New York has had the one seed wrapped up for some time, that accomplishment granting the Yankees home field during this series.  Their schedule looks something like this.

Friday: @ New York, 8:37 p.m.

Saturday: @ New York

Monday: @ Detroit

Tuesday: @ Detroit*

Thursday: @ New York*

Over in the Senior Circuit, the Cardinals punched their tickets to the playoffs with last night’s win over the Astros.  St. Louis is set to take on the National League’s top seed, the Philadelphia Phillies.  The NL will begin their playoff series on Saturday.

Saturday: @ Philadelphia

Sunday: @ Philadelphia

Tuesday: @ St. Louis

Wednesday: @ St. Louis*

Friday: @ Philadelphia*

That leaves the postseason’s final two clubs, the Milwaukee Brewers and the Arizona Diamondbacks.  By capturing a club-record 96th win Wednesday, the Brewers clinched the two seed, earning home field advantage during the first round of the NL playoffs.

Saturday: @ Milwaukee

Sunday: @ Milwaukee

Tuesday: @ Arizona

Wednesday: @ Arizona*

Friday: @ Milwaukee*
