Matt Holliday Removed from Cardinals World Series Roster

The Cardinals have removed Matt Holliday from their World Series roster due to the hand injury he sustained during Thursday night’s game six. Holliday, who had his right hand stepped on last night, has been replaced by rookie outfielder Adron Chambers.
Following the game, Holliday said that he expected to play Friday night in game seven. Still, his status was in question up until St. Louis’s afternoon roster announcement.
Injured during a pickoff attempt, Holliday had his right hand stepped on by Rangers’ third baseman Adrian Beltre in the 6th inning of last night’s game. Originally, Holliday thought that his right pinky finger was broken. X-rays later revealed no fracture, but Holliday’s hand was bleeding and became severely bruised.
Without Holliday, the Cardinals will turn to outfielder Allen Craig. Craig has certainly been solid for St. Louis this postseason, as he homered in last night’s game. But, replacing Holliday with Craig weakens the Cardinals’ bench.
Chambers was on the Cardinals’ roster for the first two playoff series. The 25-year-old has gone 1-5 with a run scored and RBI this postseason.
