Aroldis Chapman has been scratched from today’s Arizona Fall League start due to soreness in his shoulder.  Chapman joined the Phoenix Desert Dogs last week to prepare for his upcoming stint in the Puerto Rican winter league.

Reds’ general manager Walk Jocketty told MLB.com that Chapman “had a little inflammation in his shoulder”.  Jocketty assumed that the soreness is a result of Chapman “trying to do too much, too soon”.  Before heading to the Arizona Fall League, Jocketty acknowledged that Chapman hadn’t done a lot.

It’s unclear how the soreness will impact Chapman’s offseason.  Jocketty said the club will see how Chapman’s shoulder responds to treatment.  The GM believes the Reds should have a better idea in a day or two regarding their left-hander.

Chapman, who arrived in Arizona last week, made two relief appearances for the Desert Dogs.  Over his 2 2/3 innings pitched, Chapman surrendered one run on one hit with a pair of walks and strikeouts.
