Arizona Fall League Recap

Offense was king Friday in the Arizona Fall League, as four of the six clubs scored nine runs or more and every team posted double digit hit totals.  The best of the best at the plate yesterday were Wil Myers, Mike Olt, Nolan Arenado, Jason Castro, Brandon Crawford and Grant Green.

Peoria Javelinas – 4

Surprise Saguaros – 17

The Saguaros easily handled the Javelinas Friday, out-hitting Peoria 21 to 10 while scoring runs in seven of their eight innings.

Rangers’ prospect Mike Olt had quite the game for Surprise, going 3-4 with a double, home run and six RBI’s.  Kansas City’s Wil Myers was a perfect 5-5 while Braves’ first baseman Joe Terdoslavich drove in three runs for the Saguaros.

A pair of Padres’ prospects, Jaff Decker and Ryan Gyorko, were the only Javelinas to collect multiple hits.

Salt River Rafters – 10

Mesa Solar Sox – 12

The bats came alive in this contest, as the clubs went blow-for-blow late in the game.  Mesa led 5-3 after six innings, but Salt River scored six runs in the top of the 7th.  The Solar Sox answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the frame and went up for good with a three-run 8th.

Rockies’ prospect Nolan Arenado tallied three hits for the Rafters, while Houston’s Jason Castro and Jake Goebbert and Brian Cavazos-Galvez of the Dodgers each drove in a pair of runs.

Cubs’ second baseman D.J. LeMahieu and Baltimore’s Joe Mahoney collected three RBI’s apiece for the Solar Sox.

Scottsdale Scorpions – 9

Phoenix Desert Dogs – 2

Scottsdale cruised to their second victory in a row Friday, shutting the Desert Dogs out over eight innings.

Brandon Crawford of the Giants and Angels’ top prospect Mike Trout each had two hits for the Scorpions.  Bryce Harper’s streak of multi-RBI games was snapped, but the Nationals farmhand still managed to drive in a run.

Grant Green of the A’s collected three hits, including a pair of doubles, for Phoenix.
