The Colorado Rockies have acquired starting pitcher Kevin Slowey from the Minnesota Twins for a player to be named later.  Slowey, a non-tender candidate, is expected to make approximately $2.7 million next season through arbitration and is under team control through 2013.

Slowey made at least eight starts for the Twins each year since his major league debut in 2007.  After showing promise in 2008 (160 1/3 IP, 3.99 ERA, 1.154 WHIP) Slowey regressed in 2009-10.  During those seasons, the right-hander only mustered an ERA of 4.61 over his 46 appearances spanning 246 1/3 innings.

Things didn’t get any better for Slowey in 2011.  Last year for the Twins, Slowey was limited to only 14 appearances and eight starts.  Over his 59 1/3 innings, Slowey was hit hard, resulting in an ERA of 6.67.

While he has always surrendered his share of hits (career 10.2 H/9), Slowey has kept his free passes to a minimum (career 1.4 BB/9).  Over his five seasons with the Twins, Slowey has maintained a career ERA and WHIP of 4.66 and 1.295.
