Starlin Castro Accused of Sexual Assault

It’s being reported that Chicago Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her 20’s.  The alleged assault took place in Chicago last fall.  No criminal charges have been filed against Castro, who has since returned to his home in the Dominican Republic for the offseason, but he is reportedly wanted for questioning by the police.

The woman that has come forward and accused Castro of sexual assault claims that she met the 21-year-old while drinking with friends at a nightclub in Chicago.  Around 3 a.m., the woman says she left the club with her friend and Castro, returning to the shortstop’s apartment.

After that point, the woman says she blacked out and awoke to find Castro sexually assaulting her.  The woman claims, upon waking up, she screamed at Castro and left his apartment.  The next afternoon the woman went to the hospital and at this time the police became involved.

It is believed that Castro left the country the next day to return to the Dominican where he resides over the offseason.

After reports of the sexual assault surfaced, Castro’s attorneys released the following statement:

"“We are aware of certain allegations that have been made against our client, Starlin Castro. We have thoroughly investigated this matter, and we are confident that these allegations are baseless. Given the sensitive nature of this matter, we cannot comment any further.”"

Castro’s agent and the detective assigned to the case declined to comment on the situation.

The Cubs have released a statement explaining that, while this is something they “take very seriously”, “there is not enough information to make any further comment or take action at this time”.  Chicago hopes that after more light is shed on the situation, Castro “will be cleared of any wrongdoing”.
