Prince Fielder Rumors: Blue Jays, Rangers and Tigers Edition

facebooktwitterreddit

The past few days have offered several tidbits of Prince Fielder-related news, specifically dealing with the Tigers, Brewers, Rangers, Blue Jays and of course the Nationals.  Some teams appear to be dropping out of the Fielder sweepstakes while others continue to be tied to the Prince.  Let’s take a look at the latest Prince Fielder rumors.

First we’ll take a look at stories involving teams that probably won’t be signing Fielder this winter.

It’s no real news that Fielder’s chances of re-upping with his former club were slim to none entering the offseason.   Now these chances seem to be nearing negative percentages as it was reported yesterday that the Brewers are way over their projected budget.  Some in Milwaukee were holding out hope for a potential reunion, but it still seems extremely unlikely that Fielder will be back with the Brewers next season.

The Toronto Blue Jays are another team that has been falling out of the Fiedler race at a rapid pace.  It had been reported that the Blue Jays were one of the teams unwilling to give Prince more than a five-year deal this winter, and club president Paul Beeston did little to change this perception yesterday.  During an interview with SN590 Beeston said that, in the long run, the Blue Jays would probably regret handing Fielder a lengthy mega-deal.

One team some people are trying to put into the Prince Fielder sweepstakes seems to have no interest to enter the mix.  When asked if he would consider filling the void left by injured slugger Victor Martinez with Fielder, Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said of course he’d consider it.  Before Tigers fans get too excited you should also note that Dombrowski admitted that realistically Fielder is “probably not a good fit” in Detroit.

So that leaves us with the usual suspects; the Rangers and Nationals.  Bob Nightengale of USA Today writes that the Rangers do in fact want Fielder and Yu Darvish, but that they are hesitant to portray this interest publically.  Reports of the Rangers ability to sign both superstars have been mixed, but we’ve seen in the past that you can never count the Rangers out.

Still, in the end, Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports hears that many around the game believe Fielder will ultimately land with the Nationals.  Fielder seems to make the most sense for Washington, and it looks like the Nationals can afford to bring in the pricey free agent.
