Edwin Jackson Rumors: Jackson has Multiple Three-Year Offers

facebooktwitterreddit

It looks as if the market for free agent starting pitcher Edwin Jackson has finally taken off.  According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, Jackson and his agent Scott Boras are weighing multiple three-year offers.  Rosenthal added that Jackson would be willing to take a one-year deal in order to “further enhance” his value.  The Red Sox, Orioles and Cardinals have been the three teams most tied to Jackson recently.

No names have been shared as far as the multi-year offers go, but it had been reported that the Orioles would be willing to go as high as four years for the right-hander.  Baltimore would reportedly loveto add the 28-year-old, but Jackson’s interest in joining the O’s is unknown.

If Jackson isn’t blown away by the multi-year offers he receives, he could instead elect to take a one-year deal.  In this way Jackson could build on his current value and look to land a lucrative long-term deal next offseason.

The Red Sox would likely only join the mix if Jackson were considering an offer of a single year.  While most figured Boston had its sights set on free agent starting pitcher Roy Oswalt, it was reported yesterday that the club may actually prefer Jackson.  Boras could handle Jackson similarly to how he did Adrian Beltre, who signed with the Red Sox for one year before receiving a five-year contract from the Rangers last winter.

The Cardinals are the third team that has expressed interest in Jackson, who was acquired by St. Louis last summer.  However, it’s being reported that the Cardinals are closing in on a deal with Oswalt which would likely take them out of the Jackson sweepstakes.
