Blue Jays Rumors: Toronto not in on Yoenis Cespedes

facebooktwitterreddit

Most of the talk surrounding free agent outfielder Yoennis Cespedes has dealt with the vast number of teams that have expressed interest in the slugger.  Yesterday we found out that one club will actually not be in on Cespedes this winter; the Toronto Blue Jays.

Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun tweeted yesterday evening that he’s been told by sources that the Blue Jays will not be players in the Cespedes market.  Toronto initially had their name tied to Cespedes, but was not included on any of the most recent listsof teams expressing the most interest in the slugger.

Some may have thought the Blue Jays would check in on Cespedes after they were reportedly in the Yu Darvish sweepstakes until the end.  However, Toronto has a plethora of outfield options so it’s hard to see where Cespedes would fit with this club, especially given his expected asking price.

While the Blue Jays will not be in on the Cuban native, we’ve heard that the Marlins, Tigers, Orioles, White Sox, Cubs, Indians, Yankees and Phillies all have varying degrees of interest in Cespedes.
