Manny Ramirez Rumors: Manny Deciding Between Blue Jays, Orioles and A’s

In yesterday’s update on free agent Manny Ramirez, we discovered that the former slugger had been receiving the most interest from the Oakland A’s and Baltimore Orioles. Now, Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.com is reporting that Manny is currently deciding between three clubs, the A’s, Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays.
Seeing the Blue Jays added to the mix comes as no surprise. Toronto was one of the first teams tied to Ramirez this offseason, as they and Baltimore sent scouts to evaluate Manny in early January. The Blue Jays and Orioles watched Ramirez as he hit in an outdoor cage.
Rojas reports that once Ramirez elects which club he will join for the 2012 season, the sides will then begin discussing Manny’s next contract.
I predicted yesterday that it’s unlikely for Ramirez to receive a major league contract, especially in such a saturated market for designated hitters. That on top of the fact that Manny brings with him a ton of baggage makes me wonder if he will receive much more than an invite to spring training. Still, Ramirez does apparently have three teams interested in him which is three more than some other free agents have at this point.
