Yoenis Cespedes Expected in A’s Camp this Weekend

Yoenis Cespedes has yet to make an appearance at the Oakland Athletics spring training facility.  Since signing his four-year, $36 million contract with the A’s last month, Cespedes has continued to work out in the Dominican Republic while waiting for his visa issues to be resolved.  Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reported yesterday that these issues appear to now be cleared up and that Cespedes is expected in A’s camp by the weekend.

Cespedes figures to be one of the most-watched players this spring and regular season.  But before he can get onto the field and start going all demi-god on us, he first needs to take his physical.  Slusser reminded readers that, until this happens, the deal Cespedes signed with Oakland cannot become official.

Once he makes it stateside and coughs for the A’s doctors, Cespedes is expected to start the season in the minor leagues.  Though he said he didn’t make the jump to the United States to play on anyone’s farm team, Oakland will try and get Cespedes adjusted to professional baseball in America before throwing him at major league pitchers.
