MLB Trade Rumors: Angels Seeking Lefty Reliever

The Los Angeles Angels managed to put together quite the offseason.  After a disappointing 2011, the Angels signed a pair of high-profile free agents in Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson.  Already having possessed one of the league’s top rotations, LA enters the 2012 season with lofty expectations.  But before the Angels break camp this spring, it’s being reported that the club is hoping to add a final piece or two to their roster.

According to Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com, the Angels are still “looking around” for a left-handed reliever.

LA currently has two veteran south paws in their projected ‘pen; Scott Downs and Hisanori Takahashi.  These players were signed within a week of each other back in December of 2010 and performed well last season for the Angels, especially Downs (1.34 ERA, 1.006 WHIP, 53 2/3 IP).

However, as the Angels prepare for the 2012 season they are apparently targeting another lefty for their ‘pen.  There are several viable options remaining on the free agent market in Mike Gonzalez and Arthur Rhodes.

Also, as Tim Dierkes of MLBTR.com pointed out, there are players the Angels could target to add via trade this spring.  The Chicago White Sox are rumored to be willing to listen on Matt Thornton.  Dierkes also believes the White Sox would be open to trading Will Ohman, and that the Washington Nationals could potentially make Sean Burnett available.
