Matt Kemps Expects to Return on May 29

Matt Kemp told reporters, including Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, that he feels he should be ready to rejoin the Los Angeles Dodgers when he’s eligible to come off the disabled list on May 29.  Kemp, who was placed on the Dodgers DL a little over a week ago with a strained hamstring, said his leg “feels good” and added that he’s running at about 85 percent.

Kemp followed his breakout 2011 campaign by getting off to an incredibly hot start this season.  Over his first 34 games spanning 117 at-bats, Kemp hit at a clip of .359/.446/.726 with 12 home runs, five doubles, 28 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

Though Kemp has fallen behind in some statistical categories, the center fielder still registers the second highest OPS in the majors.  Kemp also continues to lead the Dodgers in home runs despite his recent absence.

When Kemp hit the DL, many wondered what it would mean for the upstart Dodgers, who surprised with their hot start to the 2012 season.  This worry proved unnecessary as, even without Kemp in their everyday lineup, the Dodgers haven’t looked back.  LA currently sports the best record in the majors at 30-13, has won six straight and owns a seven game lead in the National League West.
