Cleveland Indians right-hander Trevor Bauer fancies himself a bit of a wordsmith when it comes to writing rap lyrics. The 22 year old’s musical aspirations first became clear during Spring Training, when some suggested that one of his lyrics called out his former catcher with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Miguel Montero. Bauer declined to comment on the issue and it eventually was long forgotten. Bauer’s now written a new song, this time at the request of our very own Indians site here at FanSided, Wahoo’s on First, to be used as the site’s podcast theme song.

You can hear it in full below.

Bauer has made three starts for Cleveland on the year, posting a 1-2 record and 2.76 ERA across 16.1 IP. Spending most of the season back at Triple-A (2-1, 3.96 ERA, 1.239 WHIP, 36.1 IP) Bauer’s mostly been refining his mechanics as he awaits an opportunity to step into the Indians rotation full time – as was the plan when the team acquired him from the D’backs over the winter. Bauer’s been a vocal supporter on Twitter of his fans, which ultimately is what led to the request for the rap. To his credit, and our appreciation, he complied.

WoF debuted the song this morning on the latest episode of their podcast and the thing has gone viral online since. The team’s beat writers have been Tweeting about and writing about the song. Yahoo!’s Big League Stew picked up the story. Kevin Millar even mentioned it on Intentional Talk.

Perhaps the biggest boost was from Mark Reynolds – mentioned in the song – who elected to use “Gutter to the Grail” as his walkup music during this afternoon’s game. Reynolds’ first at bat, he hit a home run on the first pitch. If you ask Brian Heise and the guys at WoF, it’s them that are taking credit – with an assist from Bauer, of course.
