Don’t you love the month of September? Let’s be honest, there are a lot of things in the world of sports that are thrilling; but I find it hard to see anything that compares to the competitiveness and excitement of September baseball.

Teams will be fighting for their lives on the biggest stages of the league. Players are looking to be difference makers and coaches have to be nothing but perfect. No pressure, right?

There are going to be countless storylines to watch this month and it’s pretty hard to pinpoint just a few things that you need to look out for. Below you’ll find a few of those storylines and the things that are going to send some teams to the playoffs, and other players to their vacation homes.

The Price Must Be Right: It’s been a heck of a rollercoaster season for former Cy Young pitcher David Price. He’s battled through injury and poor performances just to get back on track. He’s going to have to win at least four of his multiple games this month for this team, paired with some offensive fireworks. The lineup must take advantage of their ace being on the bump and make these games count. They’re right on the bubble right now. Will they cash in?

Take Advantage of A-Rod: Although it’s poor that Alex Rodriguez is even playing, this is the time for the Yankees to surge. His power is unquestioned– clean or not– and he will be the stepping stone for the other young bats in the lineup. It’s not right that Rodriguez is still playing, but while the league is allowing him to play, the New York Yankees have to capitalize.

No Time For September Slump: Coming off of one of the hottest months in years, the Los Angeles Dodgers must keep up with their winning ways. As much as they have gone through in “Puig-ville”, it just seems like a big slump is the final edit in the script. While it’s unlikely if their pitching stays consistent, keep your eye on the Dodgers with the return of Matt Kemp.

Who Will Make The Leap: Every year has one team that provides a miraculous spark in the playoff race and surprises everyone. There are many teams on the brink of the playoffs and one will rise to the top and be a shocking factor. Will the Baltimore Orioles get their batting together? Will the Arizona Diamondbacks squeak in? Can the Kansas City Royals pull off the improbable?

Who do you think the surprise team in the MLB will be?

Whatever happens, you won’t want to miss it.
