Kicking off the 2013 MLB Playoffs, the Pittsburgh Pirates will play host this afternoon to the Cincinnati Reds in the National League Wild Card Game. The game is a welcomed sight for the Pirates faithful. The organization’s last playoff appearance came 21 years ago. The team lost the NLCS to the Atlanta Braves, watched Barry Bonds leave via free agency that offseason, and spent the next two decades struggling to return.
Return they have and the Pirates’ home park is sure to be rocking Tuesday evening when the team faces off against their division rivals to see who will move on to face the St. Louis Cardinals in the Division Series.
Pittsburgh (94-68) finished the regular season four games ahead of Cincinnati (90-72) in the NL Central. They also took 11 of the teams’ 19 matchups during the regular season, including 5 of 9 at home.
