Rich Durrett passes along the following video showing the Rangers’ newest infielder Russell Wilson taking ground balls in practice.

We’ll take Durrett’s word for it that this is really Wilson.

The Seahawks quarterback of course was taken by the Rangers in the recent Rule 5 draft, and elected to report to spring training. This does not mean that Wilson aspires to launch a baseball career.

Mostly Wilson is in Rangers camp to sell some jerseys. And boost his own brand.

It’s a cute marketing ploy. Fairly cynical but more-or-less harmless.

Wilson won’t actually see any game action but just the sight of him in the dugout in his Rangers uni will be good enough to sell merchandise and draw new fans to the Rangers.

All Russell Wilson does is win, whether on the football field or in the game of selling himself.
