The Kansas City Royals are hot. They are so smokin’ hot that they won their sixth straight postseason game and have a two games to nothing lead over the Baltimore Orioles in the 2014 American League Championship Series.

The Royals have not lost a game since the second to last game of the regular season. So technically speaking they are on a seven-game winning streak. That’s not bad and now they are headed home to the loud and crazy Kauffman Stadium.

At first Saturday’s game was gritty, in fact it almost appeared as if it may go into extra innings which would have given the Royals a chance to break their own record of winning four extra inning postseason games. The scoring was back and forth from the beginning.

The Royals scored two runs in the top of the first. Nori Aoki singled, followed by a double from the game’s star Lorenzo Cain. Aoki and Cain were driven in on a two-RBI single by Eric Hosmer.

The Orioles answered back with a run in the second on a bases loaded, two-out sacrifice fly off the bat of catcher Caleb Joseph scoring Steve Pearce.

Both teams got runs in the third. Cain got his second hit of the night and was plated on an RBI double by Billy Butler.

In the bottom of the inning the Orioles managed to tie the game on a two-run home run by Adam Jones. The game wouldn’t stay tied for long, however. Mike Moustakas answered Jones right back with a solo shot in the top of the fourth putting the Royals up 4-3.

Baltimore tied the game with a run in the fifth and the next three innings passed by without incident.

Saturday it appeared the Royals were just sick and tired of extra inning games. They scored two runs in the top of the ninth to break the tie and gain an always comforting insurance run.

Omar Infante singled off of righty Darren O’Day, so Orioles manager Buck Showalter went straight to his closer Zach Britton with the game on the line. Terrance Gore came in to run for Infante and Moustakas moved Gore to second with a sacrifice bunt right back to Britton.

Alcides Escobar then plated Gore with a double to right. Jarrod Dyson reached on a fielding error by Baltimore third baseman Ryan Flaherty. Lorenzo Cain then got his fourth hit of the night, a single to left that scored Escobar making the score 6-4 in favor of Kansas City. Britton was then able to get out of the inning but the damage had been done.

More from MLB Playoffs

Greg Holland came into to close out the game, getting two easy outs before giving up a single to Nelson Cruz. Cruz’s single ended up being in vain as Holland got Pearce to strike out swinging and the Royals were victorious in game two of the ALCS.

Moustakas with another postseason home run and Cain, who went 4-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, were the stars of the night. Both starting pitchers, Bud Norris for the Orioles and rookie Yordano Ventura for the Royals, each allowed four earned runs leaving the rest up to their respective bullpens.

It was the Royals bullpen that won out and Kansas City is heading home with two more wins under their belts. The Royals really are on fire.

Game three of the 2014 American League Championship Series is scheduled for Monday at 8:00 pm ET on TBS.
