The Boston Red Sox have reportedly reached a deal to acquire Wade Miley from the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to ESPN Boston’s Gordon Edes.

After missing out on Jon Lester, the Red Sox needed to prioritize improving its starting rotation and Miley appears to be one step in that process. The team has since acquired Rick Porcello from the Detroit Tigers and reportedly have an agreement in place with free agent Justin Masterson.

Miley has topped the 200 inning mark in each of the last two seasons. His consistency took a hit in 2014, as he only went 8-12 with a 4.34 ERA. In 2012 and 2013 his ERA numbers were more reliable at 3.33 and 3.55.

Miley, a left-hander, projects to slide into the middle of the Boston rotation. He and Clay Buchholz each had worrisome 2014 campaigns, but the team hopes they’ll be able to rediscover their old form this coming year.

Arizona will reportedly receive three players in return for Miley: right-handers Rubby De La Rosa and Allen Webster, as well as a player to be named later.

De La Rosa and Webster both came to Boston in 2012, coming over from the Los Angeles Dodgers as part of the Josh Beckett/Adrian Gonzalez/Carl Crawford trade. Each has seen mixed results in their tenure with the Red Sox. De La Rosa made 18 starts for Boston this past season, posting a 4.43 ERA in 101.2 IP. Webster made 11 starts, with a 5.03 ERA in 59 IP.

Both De La Rosa and Webster split the year between Boston and Triple-A, producing more encouraging results in the minor leagues. Each also carry question marks about their respective futures as both are viewed by some more as relief options than starters, with some even thinking that De La Rosa could develop into a closer candidate in time.
