Remember how I said they could still go after a platoon bat to pair with C.J. Cron? Well they did.

Just minutes after reportedly reaching a deal to acquire outfielder David Murphy, the Los Angeles Angels have struck another deal to acquire outfielder David DeJesus from the Rays according to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman. The Rays will be getting pitcher Eduar Lopez in the deal.

As we addressed a second ago, DeJesus will platoon with either Shane Victorino in left field or Cron at designated hitter. The 35-year-old has hit .263 with five homers and 25 RBIs in 224 at-bats against right-handed pitching this season. Murphy will pair with the other, and the Angels will go with a DH- and left-fielder-by-committee approach down the stretch instead of acquiring bigger names to fill either of those spots.

The approach allowed Anaheim to avoid giving up a significant haul of prospects, leaving them some trade ammunition if any other opportunities present themselves before Friday or via waiver trades in August.

DeJesus likely represents the last major move the Angels will make before Friday, though they could still come out of nowhere to bring in a top-tier starting pitcher or make a move to bolster the bullpen.
