Chicago White Sox name Aaron Rowand minor league instructor

The last time Aaron Rowand appeared in a Chicago White Sox jersey, he was celebrating a 2005 World Series championship at Minute Maid Park in Houston. He’s back, this time in the farm system as an instructor.

ESPN White Sox beat writer Doug Padilla reported Monday afternoon Rowand’s return to the organization as a minor league outfield and baserunning instructor. Doug Sisson, who previously held the position, left the organization after the 2015 season.

Rowand, 38, spent 11 years in the majors, five in Chicago. He was known for his sensational skills in the outfield and his energy. He was a 2007 Gold Glove recipient with the Phillies and finished with a .989 career fielding percentage.

In his career, Rowand batted .273 with 136 home runs and 536 RBI. In the 2005 postseason, he had six doubles and scored eight runs as the Sox clinched their first World Series since 1917. He also spent time as a member of the Phillies and Giants, winning his second World Series ring with San Francisco in 2010.
