With trade rumors starting to heat up and teams becoming more defined as buyers or sellers, some talented young players could be switching organizations. What prospects on contending teams could be dealt before the August 1 MLB trade deadline?

One of the biggest dates on the MLB calendar is the trade deadline. It is a right of summer for their to be a flood of trade rumors. Even though most rumors bear no fruit, it is interesting to speculate what teams will do at this time of the season.

Most of the news in July will deal with what major league players could be available, but there are some prospects that will be acquired by “sellers” that could drastically alter the outlook of a franchise.

Look no further than at last year’s deadline, when the Phillies replenished their farm system with the likes of Nick Williams, Jake Thompson, Jorge Alfaro and others. Or when the Tigers dealt Yoenis Cespdes to the Mets for a young right-hander in Michael Fulmer, who is pitching very well in his starts this season.

Every year, at least one top 50 prospect will be moved and it is usually more than one. However, prospects and young, controllable players are more cherished than ever before, and with more teams considering themselves contenders because of the extra wild card there will be considerably less players available. There still should be some big moves this summer with the likes of Jonathan Lucroy, Ryan Braun, Andrew Miller, Aroldis Chapman, Julio Teheran and others possibly hitting the trade block.

Here are the game’s best prospects that could be on move before August 1.
