Miami Marlins ran a promotion that cut ticket prices for every home run Giancarlo Stanton hit in the Home Run Derby.

Before the MLB Home Run Derby on Monday, the Miami Marlins sent out an email which would give fans a 1% discount on tickets for every home run Giancarlo Stanton hit in the game.

Well, in case you missed it, Stanton hit 61 home runs. Yeah…61.

So that means fans of the Marlins will now get 61 percent off buying tickets to see their team.

Well, at least that’s what it seemed like.

Darren Rovell later reported that the fine print saved the Marlins marketing department.

"“Fans who clicked on the link, which activated after the contest says that fans can get just 25 percent off on all seats for 35 specified future Marlins games.A $26 seat becomes $20.A $218 seat is $164.”"

Later on Rovell shared what Marlins President David Samson had to say on the promotion.

"“What Giancarlo did was so cool that we are working on an additional offer,” Samson said. “We’re thinking about picking a game and offering 61 percent off.”"

Current ticket prices for the next Marlins home game against the Mets on July 22nd this season start at $27 dollars in the Home Run Porch. Taking 61% off that price bring the cheapest ticket down to $10.16, which would have been a great price for a night at the ballpark.

The team has struggled with attendance, and is 27th of the 30 teams in average attendance so far this season. With a stadium that has the capacity of 37,000, the team has only brought in 21,127 on average so far this season. Right below them in last place is their Florida neighbors, the Tampa Bay Rays.

Whether it is 61% or 25%, The “Giancarlo Discount” (as I’m referring to it) is coming just in time for Marlins fans, given that the team is in contention for a playoff spot. The Marlins are 47-41 at the All-Star break and are second in the N.L. East behind the Washington Nationals and ahead of the New York Mets.
