One of the best teams in baseball, the Washington Nationals are poised for a great stretch run. Here are the best five players on the team.

The Washington Nationals are having a great season so far. They have jumped out to a large division lead and have looked to be the best team the Nationals have had over the past few seasons. The trick will be not if they can make postseason but rather if they can get that first round win that has alluded them in seasons past.

This year’s Nationals roster has a lot of familiar faces with a few added pieces to help them down the stretch. The Nationals roster is full of talent, but who are the best players on their roster? Before we answer that question there are a couple of players that didn’t quite make the cut that are worth mentioning.

Anthony Rendon– Rendon has yet to fulfill the potential he flashed in ’14 when he looked to be on the cusp of becoming a star player. Since 2014 Rendon has struggled to stay healthy and has not been the player the Nationals thought he was when he has been healthy. Rendon is still only 26-years-old and could still go back to putting up the numbers he did in ’14. Until then Rendon is a nice supporting piece with a roster stocked with talent.

Mark Melancon– The Nationals made a savvy move acquiring Mark Melancon. The former Pirate closer is a valued commodity on a competing team. He has put together productive seasons and should provide the Nationals with a much needed reliable closer. What keeps Melancon from cracking the top five players is his track record. He has only been a reliable closer for three seasons in his career. While they have been impressive ones, a closer is often an easily found commodity for a competing team. Melancon is good but just a complimentary piece to an already very talented team.

Now on to the best current Washington Nationals players.
