Without baseball around in the dead of winter, times can be tough. Christmas is a marker for many baseball fans of the calendar’s upcoming flip to the new year, which means that opening day is just around the corner.

At the beginning of the regular season the FanSided network put an emphasis on making this site a destination for baseball fans. A few of us were brought in to help build up Call to the Pen and see what we could make of the network’s general baseball site.

Each month we’ve seen increases in viewership, which from my standpoint has been pretty cool to watch, knowing that I have been a part of something somewhat special.

The goal all year long for the month of December has been to reach one million page views, and with the groundwork that we have laid earlier in the year, we have that goal well within our sights. This all brings me to the real reason for this holiday post, which is to say thank you.

The staff here (site experts included) all have regular jobs. We aren’t news breakers. We aren’t journalists. What we are is a big group of sports fans that just like sharing our thoughts on topical issues of the day, and perhaps sharing a different viewpoint which hopefully you, the reader, find enjoyable.

Some of us are putting in the work to hopefully turn this into a full-time job down the road. Some of us do this solely for fun. Others like getting yelled at by strangers. We have a nice mix of writers on board that brings a unique voice to the internet which we hope that you have found enjoyable as we have been finding our voice as a collective group.

While there is still time before the new year, I want to assure you that the pieces that you enjoy seeing will continue to be here, while we also try out some new ideas to keep people on their toes. If we’re having fun, we imagine that you are as well!

So whatever it is that you are doing today–whether you are celebrating the Christmas or not–I wanted to wish you a very happy holiday on behalf of the entire Call to the Pen crew. Thank you so much for your continued support over the past eight or nine months. Your support keeps us going, and I mean that. Without anyone reading the stuff we put up we’d have all packed it in by now, so thank you, thank you thank you!
